Dirt, sweat and grime will age your gear prematurely. Each material requires its own unique care and handling, to enjoy a long and productive life. (Don’t we all?)

Optimum state: clean and grease-free; beading water. When left unwashed, dirt and sweat will compromise the waterproof GORE-TEX membrane. Washing your garments regularly and re-treating them with DWR (Durable Water Repellent) will ensure your gear’s performance and long life. For garments that combine both GORE-TEX and Down fabrics, play to the gear’s more sensitive side: Follow the Wash + Dry instructions for Down.

STEP 1

PREPARE FOR WASHING

  • Close the main and pit zippers.
  • Open pocket zippers.
  • Release tension on all elastic drawcords.
  • Loosen and lightly re-secure the Velcro® cuffs.
STEP 2

WASH AND RINSE

  • Put your garment in the machine and add cleaning agent as indicated on bottle.
  • Wash on medium heat (40°C/104°F) at regular cycle setting.
  • Use a second rinse cycle to remove any residual soap. (Soap will compromise DWR and garment performance.

HOW TO DRY

STEP 1

CHOOSE MEDIUM HEAT

  • Place your damp garment in the dryer on medium heat for 40-50 minutes, this will also reactivate the DWR.


STEP 2

RE-APPLY DWR IF NEEDED

  • Test your clean and dry garment with a light spray to see if water beads off the surface. If water is not beading off your GORE-TEX, apply DWR treatment at this point.


HOW TO WASH + DRY YOUR GORE-TEX

WHICH CLEANING AGENT?

Ideally, use a cleaning agent made specifically for GORE-TEX products.

We recommend Grangers Performance Wash. You may also use a liquid free-rinsing soap or gentle detergent. Avoid detergents that contain fabric softeners, fragrance, whiteners or colorants.

Run an extra rinse cycle on your washing machine to ensure any potential residue is fully removed from your garment.

WHEN TO WASH

If your garment looks or feels dirty or is no longer beading water, give it a wash.

With Heavy use (e.g. heavy activity) – wash every 5 to 8 days of use

With Light use (e.g. day to day) – wash every 10 to 20 days of use

Optimum state: dry and lofted.

Air pockets caught between clusters of down feathers retain body warmth. This loft is what provides down’s insulation. Over time, dirt, sweat and moisture can contaminate the down feathers through the outer jacket material and cause them to clump and lose their loft. A gentle wash and thorough dry will restore the jacket’s insulating performance.

For garments that combine both GORE-TEX and Down fabrics, play to the gear’s more sensitive side: Follow the Wash + Dry instructions for Down.

  • Use a second rinse cycle to remove any residual soap.

CHOOSE MEDIUM HEAT

  • Turn garment inside out.


STEP 2

CHOOSE NORMAL LOW HEAT

  • Place in dryer alongside two clean tennis balls or "dryer balls" to help prevent clumping and redistribute down.
  • Dry completely and thoroughly, to avoid clumping or mold.
  • This may take upwards of 2 - 3 hours of drying time.


STEP 3

RE-APPLY DWR IF NEEDED

  • Lay garment on a flat surface.
  • Shake bottle well and spray a thin coating evenly on outer surface.
  • Don’t saturate the surface. A thin coating is adequate.
  • Rub DWR into the outside of your jacket with a clean sponge or cloth to keep the treatment application even and prevent streaks.
  • Allow garments to dry for 12-24 hours.
  • Hang in a well-ventilated space.
  • Air drying is fine, but heat may improve the treatment’s effectiveness. (Put dried garments in the dryer for 10-20 minutes.)

WHEN TO WASH

Wash down only when necessary.

Act when there are obvious signs of dirt or sweat, the down has become clumpy or there is a loss of loft.

Optimum state: clean and grease-free.

Over-compression, dirt, sweat and grime can affect the insulation performance of your garment. Regular wash and care of your garment, as well as giving it space to hang, will help maintain performance and extend its lifespan.

  • Refer to the care tag for specific drying guidelines.
  • Tumble dry your garment on a low heat setting to help restore the loft.
  • Do not overheat as there is risk of damage to some synthetic fabrics and materials.

  • Follow the care label on your gloves for how to wash guidelines.
  • Hand-wash gloves or mitts with a mild detergent in cold water.
  • Do not use a washing machine or any type of wash-in treatments.
  • Removable liners should be hand-washed and dried separately.
  • Always keep both the outer shells and the glove liners inside-right. (Don’t turn either inside-out.)
STEP 2

DRY

  • To dry out after use, air-dry gloves and mitts, keeping at least one meter distance from direct heat sources (eg wood stoves, baseboard heaters.)
  • To dry after washing, hang to dry.
  • Do not use a tumble dryer.

FLEECE

STEP 1

WASH

  • Start by checking the exact guidelines on the care label of your fleece garment.
  • Machine wash in lukewarm water.
  • For best results, launder garment with similar colors.
  • Do not bleach.
  • Avoid use of fabric softeners.
  • Do not iron or dry clean.
  • For optimal performance, add your fleece garment to the washing machine when you wash your GORE-TEX jacket using Grangers Performance wash(or similar). It will remove all of the dirt, prevent odor from building up in the fabric and leave no residue.

  • Turn the garment inside out and tumble dray at a low temperature.

DRY-CLEAN OR HAND-WASH

  • Check the care label on the wool garment for exact guidelines.
  • We recommend dry-cleaning your woolen products. Or hand-wash in cold water with a light detergent.

FOOTWEAR

PREPARE FOR WASHING

  • Remove laces.
  • Shake out sand, gravel, and dirt from inside the footwear.
  • If possible, remove and shake out the foot bed or insole.
STEP 2

WASH

  • Do not wash in the washing machine.
  • Do not use bleach.
  • Using only water, or with a mild detergent scrub shoes with a soft brush or sponge.
  • Rinse thoroughly to remove any soap residue.
STEP 3

DRY

  • Do not use a dryer or any other direct source of heat.
  • Leave to air-dry.
  • If you air-dry outside, choose a spot in the shade.
STEP 4

PROTECT

  • Apply DWR to re-protect your shoes if the water no longer beads and runs off the footwear.

PACK

STEP 1

PREPARE FOR WASHING

  • Open every pocket and compartment and remove all items.
  • Leave pockets unzipped.
  • Shake out the backpack to remove dirt.
STEP 2

WASH

  • Surface wash only.
  • Do not wash in the washing machine.
  • Do not use bleach.
  • Using only water, or with a mild detergent, scrub the pack with a soft brush or sponge.
  • Rinse the pack thoroughly to remove any detergent residue.
STEP 3

DRY

  • Do not use a dryer or any other direct source of heat.
  • Leave to air-dry.
  • If you air-dry outside, choose a spot in the shade.
STEP 4

PROTECT

  • Apply DWR to re-protect your pack if the water no longer beads and runs off the fabric.

Stains and stubborn or sticky spots to your garment can arise in the course of life's spills and thrills. These care instructions will help you target stains with spot cleaning tips and get at gum and sap spots with a surprising trick with ice-cubes and butter knives.

STAINS

GUM AND SAP

STEP 1

SPOT CLEAN

  • Dampen stain.
  • Spot clean stain using diluted technical detergent.
  • We recommend 1 part Grangers Performance wash diluted with three parts water.
  • (Alternatively, a dilution of dishwashing detergent can also be used.)
STEP 2

PROCEED TO WASH

  • Clean entire garment in warm water, using detergent. (We recommend Grangers Performance wash.)
STEP 1

FREEZE AND SCRAPE

  • Freeze the sticky substance with ice.
  • Using a dull butter knife, scrape away as much as you can.
STEP 2

SOAK

  • Soak the garment in a 1 part water : 1 part white vinegar solution.
  • Wash in warm water with mild detergent or with a technical cleaner. (We recommend Grangers Performance wash.)
